Laconia

Laconia is the system reached through the ring gates by Winston Duarte's rogue Martian fleet, and the seat of the Laconian Empire he rules as High Consul. Duarte, a defector from the Martian navy, uses the protomolecule on himself to become essentially immortal; his daughter Teresa is his heir. Its Imperial Navy includes High Admiral Anton Trejo of the Heart of the Tempest and Captain Santiago Jilie Singh of the Gathering Storm, and former Protogen scientist Paolo Cortázar leads its research. In Tiamat's Wrath the Underground wages a guerrilla war against the empire, which shuts down travel through the ring gates.
