Together, they create a hazardous zone around the pillar, forcing players to engage in aerial combat while managing ground-based threats that ambush from the perimeter.

The Vortex Pillar Guardians function as a localized defense system rather than a traditional organized faction. They emerge solely during the Lunar Event, triggered by defeating the Lunatic Cultist at the Dungeon entrance. Their primary objective is singular and desperate: protect the Celestial Pillar from destruction at any cost. This formation includes various aerial constructs known as Vortexes, alongside specialized units like Snipers and Soldiers that patrol the immediate area.

The apex of this defense is the massive Vortex Wyvern, a serpentine construct capable of breathing energy beams across the battlefield. These entities do not negotiate; they exist to stall the player. Destroying the Pillar Core weakens them significantly and eventually removes their ability to spawn reinforcements. Once all four pillars fall, the Moon Lord is summoned, rendering these guardians obsolete.

Players must prioritize eliminating the Wyvern while managing the swarm to claim loot like Vortex Fragments for crafting.
