Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is an expansion for the 2020 game Cyberpunk 2077, released by CD Projekt Red in 2023. It adds Dogtown, a new area to explore, along with a fresh storyline and an extra conclusion for the main campaign. The expansion launched on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows in September 2023, followed by versions for Nintendo Switch 2 in June 2025 and macOS in July 2025. Over 10 million copies have been sold since its debut.

The game is an action role-playing title seen from a first-person view. Phantom Liberty’s story unfolds in Dogtown, a district with its own cast, missions, side jobs, and gear. A new Relic skill tree offers nine abilities, unlocked by advancing the expansion’s plot or finding restricted data terminals in Dogtown. The level cap rises to 60, and fresh weapons and vehicles join the lineup. New quickhacks let players air dash, see through walls, or change V’s appearance instantly. Vehicular combat appears, letting cars fire missile launchers and machine guns. Player choices can unlock a new ending for the base game. The expansion arrived alongside update 2.0, which heavily reworked the original perk system.

Set in Night City, a megacity in the Free State of North California run by corporations beyond legal reach, the story follows V (voiced by Gavin Drea or Cherami Leigh), a mercenary killed and revived by an Arasaka biochip called the Relic. This chip contains a digital copy of rock star Johnny Silverhand (Keanu Reeves), who shares V’s mind. Together, they seek a way to stop the Relic from overwriting V’s identity.

Phantom Liberty introduces Songbird (Minji Chang), a netrunner for the New United States of America; Solomon Reed (Idris Elba), a sleeper agent for the Federal Intelligence Agency; President Rosalind Myers (Kay Bess); Alex Xenakis (Yvonne Senat Jones), Reed’s former partner now undercover as a bartender; and Kurt Hansen (Eliah Mountjoy), leader of the Barghest militia ruling Dogtown. Characters from the main story also appear.

After a job in Pacifica, V is contacted by Songbird, who says the President’s aircraft has been hacked and will crash in Dogtown. She asks V to rescue Myers in exchange for help with the Relic. V saves Myers and gets her to a safehouse, but loses contact with Songbird. Myers then directs V to Reed, who extracts her from Dogtown. Myers tasks V and Reed with finding Songbird.
