The Color that rules the Society, and the one Darrow was carved to become.
The Golds are the ruling Color of the Society in Pierce Brown's Red Rising series: the Society is ruled by the mentally and physically superior Golds, who stand above the other Colors of its hierarchy. The most elite Golds are trained at the Institute on Mars, which Darrow enters after a black-market carving turns him from a Red into a Gold.
Lore & Background
According to Pierce Brown, the title Iron Gold refers to the original Gold conquerors, the founders of the Society, who were far tougher than their descendants after 700 years of rule. After the fall of the Society the Golds split: the Rim Golds rebel and form the Rim Dominion, the Society Remnant fights on from Venus and Mercury, and a Gold bloc sits in the Solar Republic's Senate.
