Background

After growing up under Kurgan the two approached the throne as part of the Imperial Selection, which Stride presumably won as the rightful next Emperor. His father, the former emperor, poisoned him because Stride was unable to have children, a duty expected of an Emperor, but Stride survived. He claims to have seen the truth on the boundary of life and death and believes an outside entity called viewers exists in this world.

Vain and prideful, he dislikes being told what to do, rebuking Yaktol Suwen for trying to restrict his actions and later Kurgan for talking back; he is openly rude to anyone he views as lower, and Theresia noted how fluently he insulted others. He is nonetheless a quick thinker who praises what he finds satisfactory, and he ignored formalities to stop Wilhelm and Kurgan's first duel rather than lose a valuable pawn. He plots against the Kingdom of Lugnica knowing full well the power of Volcanica's protection, which earned him his alias, and although he is revealed as the Sin Archbishop of Pride he has no faith in the Witch of Envy. He speaks in an archaic, regal, scornful manner, favoring the pronoun "mine venerable self", used only by kings and emperors, and addresses everyone as "thou", treating them as inferiors.
