Background

Pre-registration opened on May 22, 2020, and the game drew more than one million downloads within its first day in Japan. Its story retells the anime with branching paths that lead Subaru Natsuki to different outcomes in "What if" scenarios, plus a new original story supervised by series author Tappei Nagatsuki; the original voice actors, including Yūsuke Kobayashi, Rie Takahashi, Inori Minase, Rie Murakawa and Yumi Uchiyama, reprise their roles, and White Fox animated the opening.

The game begins with Subaru, who has suddenly lost his memories, wandering a forest at night until Shion, a game-original character who calls herself an illusionist, rescues him; together they take on the "Recollection Town Quest" to recover his memories, reliving scenes where the characters he knows are attacked by an enemy technique called "tampering". Lost in Memories is a turn-based role-playing game in which the player can select a party of up to five. Each of them has three attacks with a cooldown depending on the attack, and during combat the characters appear in chibi forms. Each character has their own 2D illustrations, which can be viewed on their stats page, and the characters have levels and skill trees called the "Memory Board"; interactions with characters use the Live2D engine.
