Lore & Background
Beatrice treats Subaru coldly and insults him, partly because he can easily guess where she is and barges into the library without asking. Still, she cannot stand to see people hurt in front of her, and she becomes one of the people Subaru can trust.
In Arc 4 of the web novel Beatrice is revealed to be an artificial spirit, about four hundred years old, and at the end of the arc she forms a contract with Subaru.
