Did You Know?
- Supremacy MMA was announced on June 11, 2010, and was originally slated for a June 2011 release before being delayed to September 2011.
- The game was shown at E3 2010.
Gameplay
The game places players in an underground amateur mixed martial arts circuit as their character seeks fame. GameZone contrasted this style with professional MMA titles like UFC Undisputed 2010 or EA Sports MMA, which it described as taking a technical approach. During fights, competitors' faces can swell and bruise from repeated punches, and blood coats the ground. IGN reviewer Greg Miller noted gasping at one of the knockout animations.
Roster
Supremacy MMA is the second mixed martial arts video game to include female fighters, following 2004's UFC: Sudden Impact. The two female fighters are based on real-life MMA fighters Felice Herrig and Michele Guitierrez. The full roster includes fighters such as St. John Ackland (Devon Schwan), Dante Algearey (Jason Yorrick), and Jerome Le Banner (Jerome Le Banner). Pre-order DLC and PS Vita additions include Shane del Rosario and Bao Quach. PS Vita exclusive fighters are Jason Yee and Novell Bell.
Reception
The game received generally negative reviews, with Metacritic scores of 47 out of 100 for Xbox 360 and 48 out of 100 for PlayStation 3. Greg Miller of IGN criticized stiff animations, poor voice acting, latency in online play, and especially poor controls. GamePro appreciated the likeness of fighters to their real counterparts but faulted the fighting system, soundtrack, and gratuitous violence in finishing moves, which often break limbs or necks and deviate from typical MMA style.
