Brooks Koepka

Brooks Koepka (born May 3, 1990, in West Palm Beach, Florida) is an American professional golfer currently on the PGA Tour. He has won five major championships and was previously ranked world number one.

Raised in Lake Worth, Florida, Koepka attended Cardinal Newman High School before playing college golf at Florida State University, where he earned three All-American honors and won three events. As an amateur, he qualified for the 2012 U.S. Open but missed the cut. He turned professional later that summer and began on the Challenge Tour in Europe. In 2013, he won three Challenge Tour events—the Challenge de Catalunya, the Montecchia Golf Open, and the Fred Olsen Challenge de España (where he set a tournament record of 260, winning by ten strokes)—followed by the Scottish Hydro Challenge. Those three wins earned him a European Tour card for the remainder of 2013 and the full 2014 season. The day after his third Challenge Tour win, he qualified for the 2013 Open Championship. His first European Tour event as a member was the Scottish Open, where he finished tied for 12th.

On the 2014 European Tour, Koepka won the Turkish Airlines Open, finished third at the Dubai Desert Classic and the Omega European Masters, and placed ninth at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He finished eighth in the 2014 Race to Dubai and was named the European Tour's Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year. On the 2014 PGA Tour, playing on sponsor exemptions and open qualifying, he led the Frys.com Open after two rounds and finished tied for third. A fourth-place finish at the U.S. Open earned him his first PGA Tour card for the 2014–15 season and his first Masters invitation. He placed 15th at the PGA Championship and was nominated for PGA Tour Rookie of the Year.

In February 2015, Koepka won his first PGA Tour event, the Waste Management Phoenix Open, moving to 19th in the world rankings. At the 2015 Open Championship, a final-round 68 lifted him to a tie for 10th. He then tied for 18th at the RBC Canadian Open, tied for sixth at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, and tied for fifth at the PGA Championship. Later that year, he gave up his European Tour membership. In 2016, he tied for fourth at the PGA Championship and won the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament in Japan.

Koepka claimed his first major at the 2017 U.S. Open at Erin Hills, tying the tournament record at 16 under par. After wrist surgery following the 2017 season, he withdrew from the 2018 Masters, citing only 80% fitness. He recovered to defend his U.S. Open title at Shinnecock Hills, becoming the first player since Curtis Strange in 1989 to win consecutive U.S. Opens. He then won the 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club, joining Tiger Woods (2000) as the only players to win both the U.S. Open and PGA Championship in the same year. At the 2018 Ryder Cup, an errant tee shot by Koepka struck a spectator, causing a globe rupture and loss of vision in her right eye. Rumors of a feud with teammate Dustin Johnson were denied by Koepka, who called Johnson one of his best friends. In October 2018, Koepka won the CJ Cup, which moved him to world number one.

On May 19, 2019, Koepka won the PGA Championship, becoming the first to successfully defend that title since Tiger Woods in 2007, and regained the number-one ranking. In 2022, he joined LIV Golf, winning multiple events there, and added his fifth major at the 2023 PGA Championship. He left LIV Golf and returned to the PGA Tour in 2026.
