Lore & Background

Kuchar attended Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where he was a two-time first-team All-American on the Yellow Jackets' golf team. He won the U.S. Amateur in 1997 and received the Haskins Award in 1998. He turned professional in November 2000. His first PGA Tour win came at the 2002 Honda Classic. After a slump, he rebuilt his swing from 2008 onward. He was the PGA Tour's leading money winner in 2010. He won The Players Championship in 2012 and the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in 2013. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, he won the bronze medal. He ended the 2025 season as the highest-earning PGA Tour player without a major championship win, with career earnings over $61.5 million.

In Their Own Story

The Cancún sun hung low and amber over the eighteenth green at Los Flamingos, turning the sand traps to the colour of old honey. Kuchar stood over a six-footer, right side, the flagstick a thin white needle against the mango trees. His caddie said nothing. He never had to. Kuchar tapped his putter on the turf once, twice, felt the groove of the milled pattern under his boot, and let the ball roll. It slid, broke just enough, and dropped with a soft thud that seemed to pull the crowd's breath out of the gallery. He looked up, gave a single nod, and walked off the green without a smile. Five years. Five years of this same green, this same sun, this same quiet certainty. The trophy would wait in the clubhouse. The putt had already told him everything he needed to know.

Reader's Guide

Kuchar was born in Winter Park, Florida. He graduated from Seminole High School in Sanford in 1996. He earned a bachelor's degree in management from Georgia Tech. His nickname is not stated in the source.
