Tommy Fleetwood

Thomas Paul Fleetwood, born 19 January 1991 in Southport, Merseyside, is an English professional golfer competing on both the PGA Tour and the European Tour. He has claimed eight victories on the European Tour. His first PGA Tour win came in 2025 at the Tour Championship, which also earned him the FedEx Cup that year. Fleetwood has also secured a silver medal for Great Britain at the 2024 Olympic Games and has been part of three victorious European Ryder Cup teams.

As an amateur, Fleetwood had a standout career, winning the 2009 Scottish Amateur Stroke Play Championship and the 2010 English Amateur. He was runner-up in several top amateur events, including the 2008 Amateur Championship, the 2010 New South Wales Amateur, the 2010 Spanish Amateur, and the 2010 European Amateur. He represented Great Britain and Ireland in the 2009 Walker Cup and reached number 3 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and number 1 on the Scratch Players World Amateur Rankings. In July 2010, he finished second in the English Challenge on the Challenge Tour, won the English Amateur in early August, and turned professional shortly after.

Fleetwood’s professional debut came at the 2010 Czech Open on the European Tour, where he made the cut and tied for 67th. His first Challenge Tour win arrived in September 2011 at the Kazakhstan Open, securing his European Tour card for 2012, and he ended the season as the Challenge Tour Rankings winner. In August 2013, he claimed his first European Tour title at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, winning a three-man sudden-death playoff with a birdie on the first extra hole against Stephen Gallacher and Ricardo González. During the second round of the 2015 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, he scored an albatross on the par-5 4th hole.

In January 2017, Fleetwood won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship by one stroke over Dustin Johnson and Pablo Larrazábal with a final-round 67. That year, he was runner-up in the WGC-Mexico Championship, a shot behind Johnson, and lost a sudden-death playoff at the Shenzhen International to Bernd Wiesberger after a final-round 63 erased an eight-stroke deficit. He finished fourth in the U.S. Open in June and won the Open de France in July with a bogey-free 66, moving from 99th in the world rankings into the top 20. In November 2017, he won the Race to Dubai and its $1.25 million bonus. He began 2018 by defending his Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship title, winning by two strokes over Ross Fisher with a final-round 65 that included six birdies on the back nine.

At the 2018 U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, Fleetwood became the sixth golfer to shoot a 63 in the tournament’s history, tying the single-round scoring record, and finished one stroke behind winner Brooks Koepka. In the 2018 Ryder Cup, he paired with Francesco Molinari, becoming the first pairing to win all four of their matches as Europe won 17.5–10.5. He finished second at the 2019 Open Championship at Royal Portrush. In November 2019, he made three eagles in the final round to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge in a playoff over Marcus Kinhult. At the 2020 Scottish Open, he birdied the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Aaron Rai but lost after missing a short par putt on the first extra hole. In the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, he went 0–1–2 as the U.S. team won 19–9, including a tie in his singles match against Jordan Spieth.

Fleetwood tied for fifth at the 2022 PGA Championship and shared fourth at the Open Championship. In November 2022, he successfully defended his Nedbank Golf Challenge title, his first victory since 2019. In June 2023, he tied for the lead at the RBC Canadian Open with Nick Taylor but lost a four-hole playoff after Taylor made a 72-foot eagle putt. A week later at the 2023 U.S. Open, he became the first man to shoot multiple final-round 63s in the tournament’s history, finishing tied for fifth. He tied for tenth at the Open Championship. At the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, paired with Rory McIlroy as “Fleetwood Mac,” they won both their foursomes matches. He lost a fourballs session with Nicolai Højgaard but secured the decisive point in his singles match against Rickie Fowler, going 3–1–0 as Europe reclaimed the cup. In January 2024, Fleetwood won the Dubai Invitational.
