Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa (born February 6, 1997) is an American professional golfer on the PGA Tour. He opened his pro career by making 22 consecutive cuts, a streak only Tiger Woods has beaten (25). Morikawa has seven PGA Tour victories, including two majors: the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 Open Championship, both won in his first appearance at each event. He spent three weeks as the world’s top-ranked amateur in May 2018 and later became the first American to claim the European Tour’s Race to Dubai title.

Morikawa played college golf at the University of California, Berkeley from 2015 to 2019, winning five tournaments, among them the 2019 Pac-12 Championship. His amateur wins also include the Western Junior, Trans-Mississippi Amateur, Sunnehanna Amateur, and Northeast Amateur. He was part of winning Arnold Palmer Cup teams in 2017 and 2018, the victorious 2017 Walker Cup squad, and the 2018 Eisenhower Trophy team that finished second by one stroke.

Turning professional in 2019 at the RBC Canadian Open, he tied for 14th. He then placed second at the 3M Open and fourth at the John Deere Classic, securing his PGA Tour card. Two weeks later, he won his first PGA Tour event, the Barracuda Championship, beating Troy Merritt by three points. In 2020, he tied for the lead at the Charles Schwab Challenge—the first tournament after a three-month COVID-19 hiatus—but lost a playoff to Daniel Berger. He missed his first cut at the Travelers Championship, ending his 22-cut streak. He then beat Justin Thomas in a playoff for the Workday Charity Open, rallying from three down with three holes left. At the PGA Championship, he shot a final-round 64 to win his first major, becoming the third-youngest winner of that event and the fourth to win it before turning 24.

In 2021, Morikawa won the WGC-Workday Championship by three strokes. At the Open Championship at Royal St George’s, he won by two over Jordan Spieth, becoming the first player since Bobby Jones in 1926 to win two majors in eight or fewer starts and the first to win two different majors on debut. He tied for third at the Tokyo Olympics, losing a seven-man playoff for bronze. At the Ryder Cup, the U.S. won 19–9, and Morikawa went 3–0–1. He closed the year by winning the DP World Tour Championship and the Race to Dubai.

In 2022, he shot a final-round 65 at the Genesis Invitational but finished two shots behind Joaquín Niemann. In 2023, he held a six-shot lead at the Sentry Tournament of Champions but made three straight bogeys and finished two behind Jon Rahm, tying the PGA Tour record for largest 54-hole lead lost. He placed solo third at the Farmers Insurance Open, three back. At the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he tied for the lead but lost to Rickie Fowler’s birdie on the first playoff hole. In October, he won the Zozo Championship, ending a 27-month winless stretch. In February 2026, he won the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am by one stroke, ending a 28-month drought.

Morikawa was born in Los Angeles to Debbie and Blaine Morikawa, of Chinese-Japanese descent. He graduated from La Cañada High School and earned a business administration degree from UC Berkeley in 2019. He became engaged to Katherine Zhu in December 2021 and married her on November 26, 2022.
