The Pit

The Pit is a stage from the original Mortal Kombat (1992), a platform above a bed of spikes. It introduced the series' first stage finisher: on the Pit the winner could uppercut the opponent off the platform onto the spikes below.
Lore & Background
Mortal Kombat II made the stage kill harder by requiring a character-specific button sequence, and its Pit II stage shows two flaming Liu Kang palette swaps fighting in the background, the origin of the character Blaze. In later revisions of the first arcade game, fighting on the Pit stage under special conditions unlocked a secret battle with Reptile.
