Melanippe is a name borne by several figures in Greek mythology, most notably the daughter of the Centaur Chiron, also called Hippe or Euippe. She bore a daughter to Aeolus and was transformed into a mare by Artemis, either as punishment for scorn or for divulging divine secrets, and later placed among the stars.
