Family

Cephissus was a son of Pontus and Thalassa. His daughters included the naiad Lilaea, Daulis, and Melaeno, who was mother of Delphus by Apollo. Another account gives Thyia, daughter of the aboriginal Castalius, as Delphus' mother; Herodotus claimed Thyia was a daughter of Cephissus. By Euippe, daughter of Leucon, Cephissus had a mortal son Eteocles, who inherited the throne of King Andreus of Orchomenus. Cephissus was also father of Narcissus by the naiad Liriope, and of Euonymus, who fathered Aulis.
