In the animated series X-Men: Evolution, Cyclops is depicted as a confident, self-assured extroverted teenager at Bayville High who eventually becomes an instructor at Xavier's School. He shares a close brotherly bond with Nightcrawler and enters a relationship with Jean Grey. Conversely, in Wolverine and the X-Men, he begins as a brooding loner after Professor X and Jean Grey disappear, obsessively searching for her before reluctantly rejoining the team to enter a relationship with Emma Frost. In the 20th Century Fox films, James Marsden portrays Scott as the field leader until his death by the Phoenix in X-Men: The Last Stand; however, time travel in Days of Future Past restores him. A separate timeline features Tye Sheridan as a young Summers who is Havok's younger brother, appearing in Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, an alternate variant is mentioned as killed in Deadpool & Wolverine, while Kit Connor is set to portray the native incarnation.

In Wolverine and the X-Men, the story takes a darker turn; following the mysterious disappearance of Professor X and Jean Grey, Scott becomes a brooding loner who initially refuses Wolverine's recruitment efforts. He only rejoins the group reluctantly, eventually forming a bond with Emma Frost before rescuing Grey. The live-action continuity sees James Marsden's Cyclops leading the team until he is killed by the Phoenix in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand. A young Tim Pocock appears in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, displaying heat-generating optic blasts. Later, Tye Sheridan portrays a younger version who discovers his sibling connection to Alex Summers (Havok) before facing the threat of Apocalypse and the Phoenix Force again.
