Eddie Brock's origin is rooted in his career as a journalist who publicly exposed a man he believed was the 'Sin-Eater' serial killer. When Spider-Man captured the real killer, Eddie's reputation was ruined, leaving him suicidal and filled with irrational hatred for the web-slinger. He bonded with an alien symbiote rejected by Peter Parker, creating Venom to seek revenge. Over time, their dynamic shifted; while they repeatedly conflicted with Spider-Man, they also attempted to operate as violent heroes who saved 'innocent' people and avoided collateral damage. In 2008, after separating from the original symbiote, Eddie hosted Anti-Venom, sacrificing it to cure the 'Spider-Island' epidemic in 2011. He bonded with Toxin in 2012 and reunited with Venom in 2016.

In Their Own Story

By 2021, the conclusion of the 'King in Black' event transformed Eddie from a human host into a living symbiote. This ascension left his son, Dylan Brock, to join up with Venom while Eddie joined a time loop with future selves including Tyro, Wilde, Finnegan, Bedlam, Meridius, and The Eventuality. These figures formed the symbiote ruling council of the Kings in Black. Upon breaking the loop, Eddie made a situational alliance with the Carnage symbiote, becoming its host and training it as an anti-hero. This arc highlights his transition from a villain seeking to ruin Spider-Man's life to a complex figure capable of allying with former enemies and mentoring dangerous entities like Carnage.
