Second round
The second-round draw was held on 8 August 2013 at 12:30 BST. Premier League clubs not involved in European competition entered at this stage, along with Reading, one of the two best relegated teams from the prior season. Wigan Athletic, the other best relegated team, did not enter because they had won the FA Cup and qualified for the UEFA Europa League, so they joined in the third round. All ties were played in the week beginning 26 August 2013.
