Season review
Sergio Agüero became Manchester City's all-time top scorer on 1 November, netting his 178th goal for the club in a 4-2 Champions League win away to Napoli, overtaking Eric Brook. The first trophy under Pep Guardiola arrived on 25 February, when City beat Arsenal 3-0 at Wembley to claim the 2017-18 EFL Cup. Premier League glory was confirmed on 15 April after Manchester United lost 1-0 at home to West Bromwich Albion. This marked City's third Premier League title and fifth English top-flight championship, also completing their second league and League Cup double in four years.
The campaign saw numerous records broken. Nationally, they set new marks for consecutive away wins (11) and overall wins (20) in all competitions, plus consecutive league wins (18). Premier League records included most points (100), most goals (106), most wins in a season (32), biggest title-winning margin (19 points), largest goal difference (+79), most away wins in a season (16), most away points (50), and the youngest ever Premier League winner in Phil Foden, aged 17 years and 350 days.
They also matched the record for consecutive away league wins (11). Club records were set for consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions (28), consecutive league games unbeaten (30), consecutive home wins in all competitions (20), and fewest goals conceded in a full season (27). Domestically, the season was a triumph, but the European run fell short. City won five group-stage matches and advanced past FC Basel in the knockout round.
Drawn against fellow Premier League side Liverpool in the quarter-finals, they lost 5-1 on aggregate, a result marred by controversy over refereeing decisions that favored Liverpool. An Amazon Original docuseries, All or Nothing: Manchester City, covering the season, was released on Amazon Video on 17 August 2018.

The quarter-finals saw them on the road against Leicester City, and in the semi-finals, they were drawn as the home team against Bristol City, meaning the first leg was at home and the second leg away. After finishing first in the group, they were matched with Basel from the Swiss Super League in the round of 16.
