Background
EA skipped the fan vote this time and named Gronkowski on May 12, 2016 through the SportsCenter Twitter account, a year after he lost the Madden NFL 16 vote to Odell Beckham Jr. The game reworked the ground game, added defensive AI that moves teammates into position against the run or pass, introduced Ball Carrier UI prompts and Path Assist, and overhauled Franchise mode. Brandon Gaudin and Charles Davis took over as announcers. The 40-song soundtrack featured artists such as Logic, Flume, Steve Aoki, Pusha T and Lil Wayne. Metacritic rated it generally favorable; IGN gave it 8.6/10, praising Franchise mode and defense but not the commentary.
