New gameplay mechanics
Madden NFL 25 introduced the BOOM Tech Tackling System, a physics-based approach that factors player weight, speed, momentum, and ratings for dynamic tackle outcomes. The Hit Stick was reloaded to emphasize timing and approach angle, rewarding precise execution with impactful hits and increased fumble chances. Ball carriers can brace, stumble, and recover balance based on defender approach and attributes. Enhanced skill moves include a Setup State mechanic for chaining jukes, spins, and hesitations by holding sprint and using right-stick inputs. The kick meter was revamped into a multimeter with separate horizontal and vertical components for accuracy and power.
Reception
Madden NFL 25 received mixed or average reviews from critics according to Metacritic. Will Borger of IGN wrote that the game is better than Madden NFL 24, praising its on-field action and additions from College Football 25, but noted that modes are functionally the same and that Franchise mode, while the best thing, still needs help. Borger stated that the improvements are nice but long overdue.
