Background
It is the first Madden on a Nintendo console since Madden NFL 13 on Wii U and Wii, the first to launch only on ninth-generation consoles, and the first to skip PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Its main modes are Ultimate Team, where players build a squad of legends and current NFL players and play online; Franchise, where they run a team from the draft to the depth chart; and Superstar, a career mode that starts at the NFL Combine. It is also the first Madden to treat long snapper as its own position. Metacritic rated it generally favorable.
