Carter won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014, both with the Los Angeles Kings. He appeared in one NHL All-Star Game (2009) and led the Philadelphia Flyers in scoring during the 2008–09 season, with 46 goals (tied for second in the NHL). He also played 39 games with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2011–12 before being traded to Los Angeles. Internationally, he won gold medals with Team Canada at the under-18, under-20 levels and at the Winter Olympics (2014). His 92 game-winning goals is tied for 18th most in NHL history.

Reader's Guide

Carter played junior hockey for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League, earning First Team All-Star, William Hanley Trophy, and CHL Sportsman of the Year honors in his final season. He joined the Philadelphia Phantoms (AHL) after junior and helped them win the Calder Cup in 2005. He made the Flyers' roster in 2005–06, scoring his first NHL goal on October 27, 2005. He signed an 11-year, $58 million contract extension with the Flyers on November 13, 2010. He was traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets on June 23, 2011, and then to the Los Angeles Kings on February 23, 2012. With the Kings, he scored the Cup-winning goal in Game 6 of the 2012 Stanley Cup Final. He played his 1,000th NHL game on November 16, 2019. He was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins on April 11, 2021.
