Background
The play follows Will Parry and Lyra Belacqua as they travel through parallel universes, among witches and armoured polar bears, and it deals with growing up.
It makes some changes to the books. Dr Mary Malone is cut and her role passes to the witch Serafina Pekkala, and the amber spyglass of the third novel mostly disappears.
Nicholas Hytner directed the first run, from 20 December 2003 to 27 March 2004.
