Gameplay

In this platformer, Fred Flintstone jumps across twelve levels split into four areas: Bedrock, the Wild West, a Haunted House, and Dr. Sinister's Island. Players avoid spike pits, boulders, and enemies while using temporary weapons like bowling balls, clubs, and bones. The Great Gazoo appears several times per level to grant power-ups such as a double jump, dash, invulnerability, judo chop, or full health restore. Collecting 50 clams earns a Cactus Coolah for a speed boost or a Bronto Rib for a hit point. Three difficulty modes are available, but there is no save feature.

Reception

Big Trouble in Bedrock received negative reviews. Jason White of Allgame critiqued the gameplay as straightforward with confusing level design and frustrating platforming, noting a lack of extras. IGN found the controls decent but the platforming unenjoyable due to cheap hits, blind jumps, and floating platforms, and criticized an identity crisis in level themes. Nintendo Official Magazine called it a painful excuse for a platformer lacking originality. JeuxVideo dismissed it as absolutely lamentable, citing rotten quality, insulting graphics, bland gameplay, questionable handling, and imprecise collision.
