Gameplay

In this game, the plot follows the movie: Shrek must find Artie to take the throne of Far Far Away, while Prince Charming tries to storm the city and claim the crown by force. Six characters are playable: Shrek, Donkey, Puss in Boots, Princess Fiona, Arthur, and Sleeping Beauty. Only Puss in Boots can double jump. There are 20 levels, all very linear, with side paths that offer rewards for completing three or five mission-style quests, plus easter eggs like a cameo from the Madagascar Penguins. Beating a level gives bonus Far Far Pounds, the currency for the gift shop, and the difficulty setting multiplies those bonuses. Throughout the levels, players smash boxes, barrels, and other objects. Most contain fairy dust for special attacks, but some hold coins or food. Gold coins are worth 3 pounds, red coins 10. Players fight enemies—pirates, guards, athletes, evil trees, and witches—with fists and swords. After landing several hits, a finishing move can be triggered, playing a unique animation that instantly defeats the enemy and makes them drop special purple fairy dust. Defeated enemies also drop fairy dust that fills a three-part special attack meter. The Gingerbread Man, King Harold, and Pinocchio are voiced by their movie actors.
