Gameplay

The game includes practice, multiplayer, free skate, and X Games competition modes for street or vert, where players aim for the highest score within one minute. One level is based on the halfpipe from X Games Six. Arcade mode lets players roam levels, complete goals, and collect spinning X Games logos to unlock further levels. In the Game Boy Advance version, the X-Rage meter fills by performing tricks, causing a coin to appear on the halfpipe. Grabbing the coin launches the player higher to perform a 10-trick combo; success makes gems fall that can be collected. Gathering enough gems of a particular color raises the skater's attributes in a specific area.

Reception

Famitsu gave the PlayStation 2 version a score of 33 out of 40, while the Game Boy Advance version received a 25 out of 40 from the same publication. Western reviews for the PS2 version were more mixed according to Metacritic. David Smith of IGN praised the ESPN integration but criticized inconsistent graphics in arcade mode. Jeff Gerstmann of GameSpot also criticized the graphics and controls. Jim Preston of NextGen compared the game to plain vanilla yogurt without sprinkles. Craig Harris of IGN praised the GBA version's presentation and graphics but criticized its gameplay and lasting appeal. Frank Provo of GameSpot noted the park competition was incomplete and lackluster, though he praised the vert competition.
