Candlekeep
The library-fortress where Baldur's Gate begins.
Candlekeep is an ancient library-fortress on the Sword Coast of Faerûn, counted with Baldur's Gate among the setting's most iconic locations. It is where the hero of the 1998 video game Baldur's Gate grows up.
Lore & Background
In the game the protagonist, the ward of Gorion, lives at Candlekeep with the childhood friend Imoen. Entry costs a fee, so after Gorion's death the ward can only return with a rare book from Duke Eltan, to spy on a meeting of the Iron Throne's leaders there. The party is then jailed in Candlekeep for the murder of those leaders, and the keeper Tethoril helps them escape through the catacombs beneath the fortress.
