Jarlaxle

The opportunistic drow who leads the mercenary band Bregan D'aerthe.

Jarlaxle is a drow character created by R. A. Salvatore for his Forgotten Realms novels. He is the charismatic, opportunistic leader of the mercenary band Bregan D'aerthe, and Christian Hoffer of Comicbook.com called him a popular and intriguing supporting character.

Lore & Background

Critics read him as an independent operator. Caroline de Launay described him as given to subtle manoeuvres and, comparing the plot of The Dark Elf Trilogy to a chess game, cast him as the knight; Hoffer called him an amoral villain with plenty of contingencies and secret plots, and Theo Kogod of CBR saw him as in many ways a dark reflection of the honourable Drizzt. He shares the lead with the assassin Artemis Entreri in Servant of the Shard (2000) and in The Sellswords Trilogy. In the adventure Waterdeep: Dragon Heist he tries to win acceptance as a legitimate member of the Lords' Alliance.
