The Sword Coast is the coastal region of the North in Faerûn, described as "a haven for adventurers". It holds the city-state of Neverwinter and the large port city of Waterdeep, both counted among the setting's iconic locations.
Lore & Background
Beneath Waterdeep lies Undermountain, a vast dungeon rated among the deadliest in the game. Mirabar is the mining centre of the Sword Coast, the small town of Secomber sits on the border between the Western Heartlands and the wilder North, and the village of Daggerford lies on the Shining River. The 1998 video game Baldur's Gate is set on a stretch of the Sword Coast that includes the city of Baldur's Gate, the largest and richest in the region. Most 5th edition Forgotten Realms products have focused on the Sword Coast and nearby areas, starting with the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide (2015).
