Background
The player creates a character and crosses the Sword Coast with a party of companions, in a story driven heavily by plot and dialogue. It was the first game on the Infinity Engine, which Interplay reused for other Forgotten Realms games such as the Icewind Dale series and for Planescape: Torment. Baldur's Gate was acclaimed, credited with reviving computer role-playing games, and is often named among the best video games ever made. It got the expansion Tales of the Sword Coast and the sequel Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, Beamdog later remade it as Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition, and Larian Studios released Baldur's Gate 3 in 2023.
