Elminster Aumar

Elminster Aumar, also called the Sage of Shadowdale, is a powerful wizard of the Forgotten Realms and one of the first characters Ed Greenwood created for the setting. He appears in almost every Forgotten Realms game product, and The Elminster Series of novels is the fullest account of his life.

Lore & Background

He looks like a grey-bearded man with a weathered face and a hawk-like nose, dressed plainly and nearly always smoking a meerschaum pipe that gives off foul blue or green smoke; some see echoes of Gandalf, Merlin or Odin in him. He is usually witty and charming but can be imperious and terrible, a natural storyteller who rarely shows his true nature except to close friends. At the end of Elminster's Daughter he is revealed to have several daughters, among them Narnra Shalace, Laspeera of the War Wizards and Queen Filfaeril of Cormyr. His allies include the Harpers, the other Chosen of Mystra, especially the Simbul, his scribe Lhaeo and the Knights of Myth Drannor. In Dragon magazine he often appears as a sage passing on lore to an interviewer.
