Flamengo vs Internacional
Flamengo and Internacional met at the top of the 1987 Copa União and the 2020 league.
Flamengo and Internacional of Porto Alegre have contested two national titles closely. In the 1987 Copa União, Flamengo won the Green Module and Internacional were runners-up. In 2020 Flamengo retained the Série A one point ahead of Internacional.
Lore & Background
In 1987 Flamengo, with Zico, Zé Carlos, Renato Gaúcho and Bebeto, won the Copa União with major wins over Internacional and Atlético Mineiro. As champions and runners-up of the Green Module, Flamengo and Internacional then refused to play a final quadrangular against the Yellow Module clubs, and the CBF sent Sport Recife and Guarani to the Copa Libertadores instead.
On the last day of the 2020 season Flamengo lost 2–1 to São Paulo, but Internacional only drew 0–0 with Corinthians, and the title stayed in Rio.
