The 2013 points case that relegated Portuguesa and spared Flamengo.
Flamengo's links with Associação Portuguesa de Desportos of São Paulo are mainly off the pitch. At the end of the 2013 Série A both clubs lost four points for fielding an ineligible player: Portuguesa dropped to 17th and were relegated, while Flamengo finished 16th and stayed up.

On 10 January 2014 a Portuguesa supporter won a lawsuit in São Paulo ordering the points returned to Portuguesa, which would have relegated Flamengo, but the CBF refused to accept it and published the 2014 Série A without Portuguesa.
Flamengo has also used Portuguesa's ground: it played home games at the Estádio Luso Brasileiro during the Maracanã closure in 2005 and 2006, and again in 2017 and 2018, when fans named it the Ilha do Urubu.
