Shield Wall
The mountain range that shelters Arrakis's cities.
The Shield Wall is a natural mountain formation on Arrakis that protects the Imperial cities in the planet's far-northern latitudes from its violent weather. In Dune, Paul Atreides uses atomics to blast a pass through the Shield Wall, arguing that this keeps to the Great Convention because the weapons are used against a natural feature of the desert rather than against people.
