Caladan
The lush ocean world that was the Atreides home for twenty-six generations.
Caladan is the ancestral homeworld of House Atreides in Frank Herbert's Dune. A lush, oceanic planet with a wet, temperate climate, it had been the Atreides home for at least twenty-six generations at the time of the first novel. Its chief export is pundi rice, a mutated rice high in natural sugar whose grains grow up to four centimetres long.
Lore & Background
Bullfighting on Caladan uses the Salusan bull, a fierce, many-horned creature with compound eyes that originates from Salusa Secundus. Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson later wrote the Caladan Trilogy of prequels: Dune: The Duke of Caladan (2020), Dune: The Lady of Caladan (2021) and Dune: The Heir of Caladan (2022).
