Rose Marion Tyler is the fictional character who anchored the revival of Doctor Who in 2005, serving as the primary companion to the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. Created by Russell T Davies and portrayed by Billie Piper, she was introduced as a teenage working-class shop assistant from London. Rose Tyler began as a working-class shop assistant in London alongside her mother, Jackie Tyler, and boyfriend, Mickey Smith. Her life changed when she was rescued from an Auton attack by the Ninth Doctor (Christopher Eccleston) in the series premiere, "Rose." Throughout Series 1, her human reactions contrasted with the Doctor's colder alien views until she fell in love with him. In the finale "The Parting of the Ways," Rose absorbed the power of the time vortex to save the universe from a Dalek invasion on Satellite 5, becoming the sentient entity known as the Bad Wolf.

She resurrected Jack Harkness and destroyed the Dalek fleet before the Doctor drained her to save her life, leading to his regeneration into the Tenth Doctor (David Tennant). In Series 2, Rose traveled with the new Doctor and Captain Jack Harkness. Separated from the Doctor, she worked for that world's Torchwood Institute until a temporary reunion in Series 4's "Turn Left" and "Journey's End." There, she united with the Doctor, Donna Noble, Martha Jones, Jack, and Sarah Jane Smith to defeat Davros.

A Meta-Crisis Doctor was created from Rose's DNA; the real Doctor left her behind in Pete's World with this half-human version of himself, ending their romantic separation with a whispered confession.
