Jamie McCrimmon was born Donald's son, part of a lineage of pipers in the Clan McLaren. He joined the TARDIS crew after Polly suggested the Doctor take him following their encounter in 1746. Throughout his travels, he shared a lively, bantering relationship with the Second Doctor, often acting as a protective figure for Victoria Waterfield, whose departure in Fury from the Deep left him heartbroken and briefly angry at the Doctor. While initially irritated by Zoe Heriot's modern attitudes, he eventually adopted a similar protective stance toward her.

Jamie's common sense frequently outperformed logic; notably in The Dominators, he realized an erupting volcano threatened them while the Doctor and Zoe celebrated their victory. His battle cry, Creag an tuire ("The Boar's Rock"), echoed his clan's motto.
