Geography and history

Kitsuragi is a lieutenant assigned to partner with Du Bois when each precinct sends a detective to investigate the murder.[3] He was created by the Estonian game studio ZA/UM, a team that had mostly never made a video game before.[2] The character's voice was provided by actor Jullian Champenois, selected after a four-year search for his French accent and emotional tone.[4] ZA/UM decided that a "vaguely French" accent would fit the setting of Revachol.[4]

Lead designer and writer Robert Kurvitz based the character on the Elysium setting he had previously developed for his novel Sacred and Terrible Air and a homebrew tabletop RPG.[5] The development team deliberately avoided standard RPG dialogue conventions, ensuring Kitsuragi only reveals personal information under particular circumstances.[5] According to Kurvitz, Kitsuragi's high volition attribute makes him impervious to prying, as the detective often encounters his brick-wall resolve.[6] The writers considered Kitsuragi's potential attributes and beliefs, but these were not ultimately included in the final game.[7]

What the cited sources add

Price also noted that Kitsuragi stands by the protagonist "through thick and thin (unless you're racist)".[8]
