Iosef Lilianovich Dros, called the Deserter in the game, is the man who killed the hanged mercenary in Disco Elysium. A former commissar of the Revachol communist army, he survived the fall of the commune because he abandoned his post. The detectives trace the fatal shot to an old fortress on an islet off Martinaise and find him there; he admits shooting Lely with a sniper rifle out of anger and jealousy, driven by hatred of the capitalist order Lely stood for and by desire for Klaasje.
Background
According to the fan wiki he was born in '92, enlisted as a teenage volunteer in '07 and was made political commissar for the defence of the Sea Fortress when the Coalition attacked in '08; when the landings began he panicked and fled his unit. The game suggests that chemicals given off by the Insulindian Phasmid had worked on his mind for years, feeding his fanaticism and resentment.
