Devil May Cry Codexery

Yamato

Vergil's katana, the blade that can split a being in two or open the way to the Demon World.

The Yamato is Vergil's trademark katana, one of the swords Sparda left to his sons. Where Dante's Rebellion can unite a person's human and demon halves, the Yamato separates them, and it can also open a link to the Demon World. It appears in Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4 and Devil May Cry 5, and in the fifth game Vergil uses it to purge his humanity, splitting himself into the demon Urizen and the human V.

Background

Sparda created the Yamato alongside Rebellion when he split his power into three pieces, naming it to embody a god of death. In Devil May Cry 4 the Order of the Sword uses the Yamato to reopen Fortuna's Hellgate, and Dante later destroys that gate with the same sword before entrusting it to Nero; in Devil May Cry 5 a hooded stranger tears off Nero's Devil Bringer, which transforms into the Yamato. Its design has changed over the series, from an octagonal guard and gold wrapping in the first game to an oval guard with dragon motifs, and a renovated grip with a navy-and-gold guard in Devil May Cry 5.
