Rebellion

Dante's greatsword, the keepsake that unites man and devil.

Rebellion is Dante's trademark greatsword, a keepsake from his father Sparda. Introduced in Devil May Cry 2 and seen throughout the series, it is the counterpart of Vergil's Yamato: where the Yamato separates a person's human and demon halves, Rebellion can unite them. Its power lay dormant until Dante's own blood awakened it in Devil May Cry 3, unlocking his Devil Trigger; in Devil May Cry 5 Urizen shatters it, and Dante stabs himself with the broken blade to absorb it and the Devil Sword Sparda, forging the Devil Sword Dante.

Background

The blade is heavy and double-edged, notched near the tip, with a skeletal guard: a human skull on one side and a horned demon skull on the other, the blade emerging from a rib cage. The crossguard folds against the ribs until Dante's blood awakens the sword, when it extends and the skull becomes a screaming one. Sparda gave his sons enchanted swords with opposing powers: Rebellion lets its user absorb anything, while the Yamato can split one's being or open a link to the Demon World.
