Nelo Angelo
The black knight of Mallet Island, Mundus's enslaved champion with a familiar face.
Nelo Angelo is the masked dark knight who serves Mundus in the first Devil May Cry, where he is Dante's secondary antagonist and rival. Created when Mundus enslaved Vergil, the elder son of Sparda, and trapped him in a suit of black armor, he fights with a massive broadsword wreathed in blue flame. In their first duel he overpowers Dante but hesitates and flees on seeing the half-amulet Dante wears, which holds a picture of their mother; after two further encounters his helmet comes off and his identity as Dante's twin brother, brainwashed by Mundus, is revealed.

Background
Unlike other enemy demons in the first game, Nelo Angelo had no original movements for the 3D environment; the designers reused Dante's, and gave him the projectile move Summoned Swords instead of guns to set him apart. His armor is olive-green with pulsing blue lines that change color as he takes damage, and he is an honorable fighter who announces himself before drawing his blade. The name is a mistranslation of 'Nero Angelo', Italian for black angel. He later appears as the Devil Trigger form of a secret Vergil costume in Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition, and Devil May Cry 5 includes enemy classes modeled on him.
