The Calamity
The war among the gods that only a third of Exandria survived.
The Calamity was a string of apocalyptic events set off by a civil war among Exandria's gods and their followers. It put the whole world in peril, and only one-third of its population lived through it.
Lore & Background
The Calamity brought the Age of Arcanum, the second age of Exandria, to an end. Aeor, a magocracy and floating city, crashed during it into what is now the frozen archipelago of Eiselcross, and at its start the land of Domunas was destroyed, which created the Shattered Teeth. In its wake mortals rebuilt the world while the Prime Deities constructed the Divine Gate, which removes all gods from Exandria.
Reader's Guide
Three Critical Role stories are set around the Calamity. Exandria Unlimited: Calamity follows heroes of the Age of Arcanum who try to prevent it; the Downfall special of campaign three is set over a century into it and follows the divine figures who brought down Aeor; and Exandria Unlimited: Divergence is set in its wake. The adventure book Call of the Netherdeep is also steeped in its history.
