The attack on Emon opens the Chroma Conclave story arc (episodes 39–84) of Critical Role's first campaign. Four ancient chromatic dragons descend on Emon, the capital of Tal'Dorei, and the Sovereign and other important political figures fall in the onslaught.

The dragons strike during a proclamation outside the palace at which Sovereign Uriel announces his abdication. The green dragon Raishan attacks the crowd and the black dragon Umbrasyl joins in, the red dragon sets the Cloudtop District on fire, and Allura's tower is destroyed. Vox Machina flees to Greyskull Keep and takes civilians in; there the white dragon Vorugal attacks until the massive red dragon Thordak flings him away, warning him that Emon is his.
Reader's Guide
Thordak announces to the city that its people now serve him, while the other dragons head east to establish the domain of the Chroma Conclave. The dragons take control of the kingdom and divide it. Vox Machina needs more power than it has to defeat them, and sets out in search of the Vestiges of Divergence.
