Vertigo has become relatively unpopular due to its awkward design. While the map was part of the Active Duty map pool, it was a popular choice for removal from Counter-Strike 2. On November 7, 2024, Vertigo was removed from the Active Duty map pool (in preparation for the 2025 BLAST Austin Major) and replaced by Train, which was added on the same day.

de_vertigo functions as a symmetrical assault map defined by extreme verticality and three primary lanes. Terrorists spawn on the ground level, aiming to ascend via Long or Short towards Site A and B, while Counter-Terrorists defend from elevated positions above. The Mid lane offers direct access to both bomb sites but is heavily contested due to the narrow Connector ramp leading up. Control of the Helipad provides a crucial vantage point for spotting rotations across the complex glass architecture.

Smoke grenades are essential for blocking vision lines through the transparent walls and catwalks. Fast-paced engagements often decide rounds before players reach the bomb sites, making utility usage critical for both sides in this high-altitude environment where every angle matters. Site A is typically accessed via the Ramp from Mid or Long, requiring precise coordination to secure the plant zone. Conversely, Site B relies on Short control and Catwalk pressure.
