In Their Own Story
The dust hangs in the air like it has for a thousand years. Kova presses his back against the sandstone pillar at mid, the rough grain biting through his tactical vest, and listens. Somewhere beyond the long corridor toward A, a crate has been flipped. The sound is small, almost polite, but in the silence of anubis it carries like a gunshot. He checks his smoke—two left, one flash, a HE that's been sitting in his inventory since the first round. The Egyptian carvings above his head are worn smooth, the jackal god's eyes staring down at nothing, at everyone, at the two men who will die in this corridor by the end of the half. Kova exhales through his nose, lines up the smoke on the A entry, and starts running before the dust settles.
