Ari Sandel directed the 2018 American comedy horror film Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, with a screenplay by Rob Lieber based on a story co-written by Lieber and Darren Lemke.[1] According to Box Office Mojo, the film's total worldwide gross was $93.3 million, consisting of $46.7 million from the US and Canada and $46.6 million from other markets, while its production budget was $35 million.[2] Based on 93 reviews, Rotten Tomatoes reports that 48% of critics gave the film a positive rating.[3]
Making and release
The film's first trailer premiered on July 11, 2018.[4] Sony was already planning a sequel to Goosebumps as of September 2, 2015, and was seeking a screenwriter at that time.[5] By May 2017, the project was being called Goosebumps: HorrorLand, and reports indicated Jack Black would return to play R. L. Stine.[6] Variety* noted that two different scripts existed: one featuring Black in his role, and another where his character was completely absent.[7]
What the cited sources add
Ebiri added that "the movie feels undercooked on every level".[8] In its second weekend, the film's revenue fell by 38% to $9.7 million, and it stayed in fourth place.[9]
