The Haunting Hour: Don't Think About It
A goth girl unleashes a monster from a forbidden book.
Last updated
The film follows Cassie Keller, a Goth girl who reads a forbidden book to her brother on Halloween night, unleashing a monster.[1][2] Common Sense Media reviewer Heather Boerner noted the story is based on the simple order not to think about the boogeyman.[1]
Making and release
Executive producers decided to film their own original story instead of adapting Stine's short stories.[3] Filming took place in Carnegie, Pennsylvania and Cranberry Township in October and November 2006.[4] The executive producer role was held by Margaret Loesch, who had previously founded both Fox Kids and the Hallmark Channel.[5] Chris Hajian is credited with composing the film's musical score.[5]
R. L. Stine provided input on the script's development.[3] More than one hundred local residents participated in making the film.[6] The animatronic creature called The Evil Thing was crafted by Gregory Nicotero and Howard Berger.[7] In the United States, the DVD became available on September 4, 2007.[8]
What the cited sources add
Lee noted the special effects are "fairly decent and not nearly as awful as you might think for a film like this".[2] Heather Boerner criticized the product placement, writing that the pizza delivery guy is "included in more than half of the DVD".[9] The DVD includes a behind-the-scenes featurette and Emily Osment's music video for "I Don't Think About It".[2] According to William Lee of Movie Metropolis, the movie presents "a very simplistic and straightforward tale" whose characters never develop beyond stereotypical roles.[2][10]
