Mickey's House of Villains
A 2002 direct-to-video Disney villain crossover film.
Last updated
It is based on the television series House of Mouse and stars Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Disney Villains from past productions.[1] Buena Vista Home Entertainment put the film out on VHS and DVD formats on September 3, 2002.[1]
Making and release
The plot involves Disney villains taking over the House of Mouse on Halloween and turning it into the House of Villains.[2] The film is a compilation of Disney shorts, including "Mickey's Mechanical House" from the series Mickey Mouse Works.[2] Another short is "How to Haunt a House," also from Mouse Works, which features Mickey, Donald, and Goofy as ghostbusters.[2] A third short shows Donald and his nephews tricking each other about a dangerous gorilla.[2]
The villains perform a musical number called "It's Our House Now" where they kick out the heroes.[2] After the takeover, Mickey and friends try to restore order between segments.[2] The final short is "Hansel and Gretel" with Mickey and Minnie.[2] The program ends with a confrontation between Jafar and Sorcerer Mickey.[2]
One audio option on the disc is "5.1 House Mix" for music, while another is "5.1 Villains Mix" for sound effects.[2]
What the cited sources add
A DVDizzy review notes that the villains appear with brief dialogues between shorts and receive more screen time later.[2] The same review states that almost all Disney villains appear, including less popular ones like Madam Mim.[2] Common Sense Media describes the villains as "mischievous" and "malevolent" and approves the movie for children 6 and older.[3] The DVDizzy review observes that the new shorts and the song are presented in stereo while vintage shorts are in mono.[2]
From the main menu, viewers can select three Easter egg posters featuring the villains Hades, The Queen, and Ursula.[2]
